OUR HISTORY
In 2000, the Honorable Chief Judge Bell of the MD Court of Appeals established the Maryland Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO) to help advance alternative dispute resolution programs throughout Maryland. In 2002, community leaders worked with MACRO to establish a non-profit mediation center to serve five counties on the Eastern Shore, then known as Chester Valley Community Mediation Service (CVCMS). The effort was so successful that CVCMS divided it's territory into two mediation centers. In 2006, CVCMS became Community Mediation Upper Shore (CMUS) to reflect the service area. As of 2019, CMUS serves Kent and Queen Anne's counties. There are now four mediation centers across nine counties on the Eastern Shore, all providing mediation services free of charge.
